Daniel Shields is an active member of the online community of web analytics practitioners. With a primary focus on testing and research, he frequently contributes to the discussion on Yahoo! Groups: 'The Web Analytics Forum' as well as posting to his blog at Web Analytics Demystified with Eric T. Peterson, Judah Phillips, and Joseph Carrabis. Daniel is frequently sought after for advanced multivariate testing services, strategic personalization analysis, and lab based usability testing. He is considered by many as a primary resource for innovative experiment design.
Professional Background
Mr. Shields has unique history of experience in interface development and measurement of electronic communication. As a young dateless technophile, Daniel developed file-trading bulletin board systems in northeast Pennsylvania and built functional programs and protocols for pc security. Measuring was easy as the number of phone calls and individual downloads of files as produced by the management software for TRIBBS. These dial-up communities were replaced in the early 90s by the advent of the world-wide-web and portals like AOL, and Prodigy. Soon websites were the norm, with websites came servers and logs.
Progress to analytics and eCommerce was logical. Mr. Shields was president of OutSource Media Solutions, a Florida business entity for development of marketing, advertising and website design. It was this experience which helped foster an understanding of site architecture designed for search engine optimization and the impact of navigation on usability. In 2007, Daniel brought these skills to the team at CableOrganizer.com. There, under the guidance and education provided by Paul Holstein, he refined his research and experiment skill and quickly constructed a keen sense of business analytics as they applied to a top intenet retail ecommerce entity.
In business for the purpose of aiding web based commercial sites, Daniel states that Wicked Business Sciences envisions its primary goal as.."Conducting valuable research and producing publications which can help companies, both online and off, get a sense of who are the people whom interact with their web presence." This resonates with the goals of the growing scope of web analytics. Through science and research on top business sites, best practices and their application can be made available to smaller companies at a price that is scaled to their size and relative to their potential return. Daniel studied psychology and communication at the University of Scranton, in his home town in Pennsylvania. He continued his education in communications and history at Florida Atlantic University where he completed coursework in 2002. He resides with his wife and child(ren) at their home in Florida.
